Sarasota, FL: The much-anticipated St. Armands Garage, 47 N. Adams Drive, will open to the public Tuesday, Feb. 12, with nearly 500 public parking spaces launching a paid parking program at St. Armands Circle to boost parking availability and reduce street congestion. Almost 200 on-street parking spaces in the St. Armands Parking District will be free.
The four-level garage includes 484 parking spaces, five electric vehicle charging stations including one DC fast charger, bicycle storage and repair station and public restrooms. Twenty-three surface lot spaces adjacent to the garage also were created. With a continued commitment to sustainability, the garage features efficient lighting systems, a tire inflation station and solar panels that will be installed on the rooftop and will help power the garage.
The $15 million facility is the result of a mutual partnership between the City of Sarasota and St. Armands commercial property owners who will help pay for the facility through a special assessment. The paid parking program also will fund the project and operations.
The parking rate in the St. Armands garage is $.50 per hour Monday through Saturday, excluding holidays recognized by the City of Sarasota.
Forty pay stations and six traditional single-head parking meters are installed around St. Armands Circle for on-street parking and parking in the Fillmore Lot (S. Adams Drive and Monroe Drive). Visitors can pay by credit card, debit card, coins or ParkMobile app (details below).
Rates are divided into color-coded zones based on proximity and convenience:
- Green - $1.50 per hour
- Yellow - $1 per hour
- Purple - $.75 per hour
Nearly 200 on-street parking spaces will remain free within a short walking distance to shops and restaurants.
To help with the meter selection process, a variety of models was tested over a period of time at St. Armands Circle by visitors who were asked to rank the interface and ease of use. The models installed on St. Armands Circle were selected based on considerable public input and consensus that they are the most user-friendly technology available and as simple to use as an ATM.
Users just enter their parking zone (posted on street signs) and their license tag (consider taking a picture of it with your phone so it is readily available) – that’s it. No need to return to the car to place a receipt on the dashboard.
For ease and convenience, visitors can use the ParkMobile app and pay from a mobile device. Once registered in the ParkMobile system, simply enter the parking zone posted on street signs and select the duration of time. Reminders can be sent when your parking session nears expiration and time can be extended via the app.
ParkMobile is used in many cities throughout Florida including Tampa, St. Petersburg, West Palm Beach, Miami Beach, Delray Beach and Hollywood. Individuals who already have a ParkMobile account may use that same account and do not have to re-register. Watch a “Using ParkMobile App” video. A small ParkMobile fee is applied for each mobile transaction.

Construction of the St. Armands Garage began in May 2018 following a parking review in 2013 which determined 300-600 parking spaces were needed in the area. The St. Armands Parking District was developed mutually in cooperation with the Business Improvement District, St. Armands Merchants Association, St. Armands Key Residents Association and the City of Sarasota.
“The St. Armands Parking District is the result of a collaborative effort to increase the turnover rate of parked vehicles and alleviate congestion on the Circle,” said Parking Manager Mark Lyons. “Visitors will have a variety of parking options. From free on-street parking within a short walk to the Circle, to nearby covered parking in the new garage at an affordable 50 cents per hour, to $1.50 per hour for parking directly on the Circle. The pay stations and meters are conveniently located, easy to use, and the ParkMobile app is a great option for those who prefer to pay remotely with their phone.”
Parking at the two downtown garages remains complimentary for the first two hours. On-street parking is still limited to two hours. Enforcement hours are now Monday-Saturday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Please look for the signage detailing the new hours.
